the elf kitchen

When I first read this post about mud pie kitchens (gosh, two years ago already?), I was really eager to make one but didn’t have a good place for it in the yard of our apartment building.  So I mentioned it to my mom at one point in time: every Grammie needs a mud kitchen, right?

Well, she indulged me (she’s good like that), and got my dad to clear out the dead branches under their big pine tree, leaving  a nice cozy fort space underneath.  She then proceeded to find this sweet vintage play kitchen — which is quite beat up so there’s no need to feel bad about keeping it outdoors.  She stocked it with some of the kitchen tools that my sister and I used to play with many years ago.  And voila — a little elf kitchen that my girls and their cousins were completely enthralled with.  We never even got around to adding mud, because they had so much fun without it.
